Description

The Terra platform experienced a Printed Wire Assembly (PWA) failure in October 2020, which impacted the MODIS instrument's daytime observations in the higher latitudes in both hemispheres. Subsequently, the Terra MODIS Cloud Mask (MOD35_L2) and Cloud (MOD06_L2) products both exhibited degraded results. In September, 2021, Terra's solid-state recorder was rebooted that returned all the PWAs' functionality with full science acquisitions for all its five instruments.

Using updated algorithms, the LAADS DAAC has reprocessed the C61 Terra MODIS Cloud Mask and Cloud products based on data observations acquired between October 5, 2020 and September 25, 2021. These reprocessed datasets will replace the previously deficient products. Following the Terra solid-state recorder's reset on September 26, 2021, the original algorithms are employed for both products. We plan to release these newly reprocessed products by mid-January, 2022.
