Description

The Level-1 and Atmosphere Archive & Distribution System Distributed Active Archive Center (LAADS DAAC) is pleased to announce the availability of a new Cloud Property product suite to facilitate climate model evaluation.

The Level-3 (L3) Cloud Feedback Model Intercomparison Project (CFMIP) Observation Simulator Package (COSP) simulates the signal from satellite observations in a model-generated world that allows direct comparison to observations to enable improved climate model validation. The Level-3 (L3) COSP cloud product suite contains a tailored subset of cloud mask, cloud-top, and cloud optical retrieval data aggregated over daily and monthly timeframes from three platform/instrument data streams in a format consistent with the COSP simulator. Identified by the shortname prefix, CLDPROPCOSP, these platforms/instruments include the Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) and NOAA-20 VIIRS.
